8th May 2019. Wednesday

Greetings Gardenistas and other people.

Well, what a miserable day all round. Drizzle all day and then the wind picked up and it went even colder. Felt more like March than May. What a delightful country we live in. I’m not being ironic, I mean it. It wouldn’t be green and pleasant without a little rain now and then. If only it would rain at night then everyone would be happy, especially me. I remember back in 2012 it started to rain at the beginning of June and didn’t stop till the new year. 40 days I was rained off and when I wasn’t I got wet at some point during the day. There was only me and LJ working then so you can imagine what the van smelt like, wet dog, wet grass and misery.

Anyway, on a lighter note. It’s time to start trimming any non flowering shrubs such as euonymus and any hedging, as long as there are no native birds nesting. If you do you’ll get your collar felt! Gardens look better when they are neat and tidy.

Once I have figured out how to upload pictures I will start having an image of the day. I have loads to share and some are quite good, he says with pride

Let’s hope that Tottingham Hotspur can beat that Ajax. Wasn’t he a star of superstars in the seventies? Oh! No that was B Jacks. Then if Chelsea and the Gooners can win, what a great year for England. Then if England win that tournament. Stop dreaming Jellyboy it gets you no where.

That’s all for today. Keep forking

May 7th 2019. Tuesday

Greetings Gardenistas and other people.

Well, here is my second post. It has been a rather productive day all round with a visit to the nursery to pick up some privet hedging. I don’t think they had sold many in the last few months, we nearly had to dig them out as the roots where a good 8″ (about 20cm to all you who don’t know what an inch is) out of the pot.

Today I have been working with JP, GF and LJ, that’s Lily Jellicoe my customer liaison and chief entertainment officer. JP is my main man and full time while GF is new to the trade and works 2 or 3 days per week.

LJ was doing her usual, first one out of the van seeing where we are with 2 questions running through her mind, is this were I get a biscuit and are they in? When she is really focused she will go up to the door of a feeder and actually knock on it.

The main question today in the van was will Liverpool actually win anything this season. At 3-0 down to Barca and Citeh 1 point ahead in the premier league with 1 game remaining. Well, as I live and breathe the scousers have just beat Barca 4-0 as I write this post. JP is the red, might not see him tomorrow!!! GF is from Lon Don so obviously likes MUFC. I’d say supporter but he has never been to the theatre for people not from Manchester. LJ and I are fervent pie munchers and proud Wigan Athletic supporters. She would go home and away but I don’t really pay much.

Anyway, that’s all for my second post.

Bon apetite

May 6TH 2019. BANK HOLIDAY MONDAY

Hello fellow gardeners and other people.

This is the first post for jellicoe and I will be posting everyday from now on.

I am a professional gardener who has 3 employees and a border collie named Lily. The management structure is me:- Chairman, Managing Director, Accountant, Sales Director, Marketing Director, Advertising Exec and HR. Then comes Lily:- Customer Liason and chief entertainer. Then all others in no particular order or rank.

My posts will concentrate on our day to day activities and the characters and situations we come across. As the seasons developed I will talk about what you should be doing in your garden and will also be talking about other aspects of the day and what’s been going on. Lily will feature everyday as I can’t shut her up for one minute, it’s just yap yap yap all day.

I will introduce the minor members of the organisation as the days and weeks go on.

As it’s a bank holiday here in the UK we are having the day off. Well, I say we, I mean the rest of the team as I have quite a large plot to take care of at home. So no day off for me. Looking on the bright side I do get more brews!!!

Today, it’s been about the weeds. Don’t turn your back on the little blighters, or for that matter even blink, or they will be back quicker than Arnie.

Anyway, that’s enough for today, my middle fingers got a blister on it!

I will keep posting as long as someone is out there.
